DESIGN STUDIO 5 [ARC 3117]
Project 1: Preliminary Studies
For this project, we were assigned to a group and were required to conduct site documentation and analysis at Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur.
It was a challenging and fun project as we get to work as a group and coordinate with other groups to delegate the heavy tasks given. During the site visit, much was learnt about what Chow Kit really is, putting aside the first impression given by others on how dodgy the place is.
Importance was also given on our presentation skills. Every tutorial session was an in-class presentation to the tutors, updating them the findings and analysis on the site and the precedent studies, verbally and visually.
This project equips me with an understanding of what an urban infill market is, and most importantly what is and how to conduct urban study and the role of markets in urban societies.
Effort by the tutors on providing readings to us is much appreciated as it had assisted me a lot on the overall understanding of urban study and thank you for my group members for their contributions in the project.

Project 2: Market Place
This project requires us to design a market that addresses the urban street context of Chow Kit. Emphasis was also given on UBBL and standard design codes.
Throughout the whole project, developements on the ideas were constantly pushed by the tutors through drawings and especially study models, to enable us to explore our ideas in 3D ways.
This project has given me opportunity to learn in depth on how building responses to the site context not only as a physical object, but socially as it creates a sense of place to the locals.
